Savannah and Dom were one of our “COVID couples” who had originally planned to have a tiny ceremony-only wedding in November, with their bigger “hoorah” in Cabo next February but I’m sure you know where this is going. Obviously 2020 had other plans for them and they were forced to cancel Cabo and have an intimate November wedding only. They were so disappointed to say the least, as were we to see their plans change so drastically. Like many 2020 couples, these two chose to focus on the positive (that they were still getting married no matter what!) and plan the most perfect intimate wedding in the groom’s parent’s backyard. It truly was like something out of a fairytale – full of SO many romantic and heartfelt moments, that at many times I looked around and couldn’t find a dry eye. I think I cried every single time they did, y’all…and it was a lot! When we left their wedding, I looked at Tyler and said “I felt more love in that room with only 14 people than I’ve felt at weddings with 150+ people!” And he agreed.
Our weekend with them started at the rehearsal dinner where we experienced our first “Polterabend” which is a German tradition where wedding guests break plates to bring luck to the couples’ marriage. It was so much fun!! I asked Tyler, “Hey, you’re German!! Why didn’t we do this?!” Haha – it was a blast, and both of their families were so warm and inviting to us – it really felt like we were a part of the family all weekend.
Culling down this wedding to a reasonable blog post sure was a challenge, y’all, but boy are we excited to share with y’all the highlights of their day. From all three first looks, to the letter exchanges and her dad officiating, the day was filled to the brim with joy and love – and it certainly showed on their faces.
Join us in celebrating these sweet newlyweds! Congrats Mr. & Mrs. Pickering! We were so honored to capture your day!
